Transfer News: Diego Gomez Joins Phoenix Rising FC
Phoenix Rising FC announced on Saturday that they have acquired midfielder Diego Gomez from Club Necaxa ahead of the 2026 USL Championship season. The transfer is pending league and federation approval.
Diego Gomez, a 22-year-old native of Pabellón de Arteaga, Aguascalientes, has previously made 56 appearances for Club Necaxa in Liga MX and has also represented the Mexico Men’s National Team at the U-20 and U-23 levels. He recently made his senior national team debut on June 1, 2024, coming off the bench in an international friendly against Bolivia.

Head Coach Pa-Modou Kah expressed excitement about Gomez joining the team: 'This is a very important challenge in my career, one that will help me to grow as a person and soccer player,' said Gomez. 'It’s a team in a new league for me, but one that plays at a high level and demands a lot.'
Gomez has also accumulated significant experience at the club level, debuting with Necaxa's U-20 side in 2020-21 and going on to make 119 appearances (86 starts) across their U-20, U-23, and First Teams. 'He is a quality player with experience in Liga MX,' Coach Kah added. 'It says a lot about him and us as a club that he wants to play here. He’s a dynamic midfielder with good quality on and off the ball. We’re getting a player with grit, passion and a winning mentality.'
The addition of Gomez is expected to strengthen Phoenix Rising FC's midfield for the upcoming season, bringing a blend of experience and youth to the team.
