Eva Longoria takes on Club Necaxa's transformation
Actress and producer Eva Longoria has turned her attention to Mexican football by investing in Club Necaxa, a team with a rich history in Liga MX. Currently, the club sits 4th in the league with 6 points (2 wins, 0 draws, 0 losses) and a goal tally of 4 scored and 2 conceded (+2 goal difference). Longoria, who also owns Angel City FC in the NWSL, sees in Necaxa an opportunity to revitalize football in Mexico.
How did the docuseries project come about?
Longoria explains that her connection to football began with Angel City FC, a project led by Natalie Portman and Julie Uhrman. Later, investors Al Tylis and Sam Porter, from Club Necaxa, brought her into the team. "I fell in love with Al and Sam. I want to do business with them," she said. The idea for the docuseries came when she visited Aguascalientes and saw the narrative potential of the team and the community.
What role does Ryan Reynolds play in the project?
The production of the docuseries joined forces with the creators of Welcome to Wrexham, Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds. Longoria highlights that her team was already developing the project when, by chance, her investors also invested in Wrexham. "If anyone knows how to do this, it's Rob and Ryan," she said. The series shows the emotion and drama of football, from coaching changes to the sale and return of star players.
What does Necaxa mean for Mexican culture?
For Longoria, investing in Necaxa is a way to elevate the perception of Mexico and its talent. "I always look for opportunities to highlight the beauty and talent of Mexico," she said. The docuseries, premiering on August 7 on FX, promises to be an emotional journey through Mexican football, with the team and community as protagonists.
